April 2007 Club Meeting

Our April club meeting was held April 28, 2007 in Scottsdale with great attendance and participation. A 2-1/2 hour presentation was given by Dr. Whit Church on heart disease in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. His presentation included many detailed graphics that were appreciated by all. Dr. Whit Church, DVM, of Animal Veterinary Specialists is the only veterinary cardiologist practicing full-time in Arizona and we are grateful for the vital information that he gave to the many club members and prospective members who attended. This heart information is important not only for breeders but pet owners and prospective owners as well.
Our 3rd AKC Sanctioned "B" Match
March 10th, 2007
Our 3rd AKC Sanctioned "B" Match was held on March 10th 2007 at Cactus park in Scottsdale, Arizona. We are thankful to the honorable Judge Sandy Wheat from Phoenix for graciously accepting our request to judge the match. Immediately following the match club members and guests enjoyed a potluck BBQ lunch with Dale Starks and Kimberly Kennedy manning the grill. A special demonstration of Canine Musical Freestyle presented by Sandy Beeler and her musical freestyle group of Queen Creek was appreciated by all those in attendance. Despite the unseasonally warm day everyone had a great time! Young juniors in the showring was a special delight to all!
OFA Health Clinic
Sunday February 11th, 2007
Sponsored by our club and held at the Animal Hospital at Grayhawk. Health testing our dogs for inherited diseases and conditions is very important; we appreciate all those who took the time out of their busy day to promote the health of our beloved dogs. A special thank you for all of our volunteers, especially Kelly Collins, DVM and Shelly Rae Fields who together spent many hours setting up and organizing the clinic.

Sanctioned B Match and Microchip Clinic

The CKCSC of Central Arizona held its second AKC-sanctioned "B" Match & Microchip Clinic in recognition of AKC's "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" on Sept.9, 2006 at Paradise Valley Park. The microchip clinic was successful, and in spite of some stormy weather at the start, the B match was well attended. The rain stopped, the sun peaked out of the clouds, and club members enjoyed a great puppy match with some great prizes!

Special congratulations to the following club members and their dogs for placing at the match:

Best in Match: Desert Sky Sugar Bear, owned by Nikki and Steve Postero and bred by Jane & Ron Estabrook
Best Puppy in Match: Sparklands And The Tramp, owned & bred by Tiffany Neely
Best Junior Handler: Skylar Neely

We would like to give a heartfelt "thank you" to clubmember Kelly Collins, DVM who administered the Microchip clinic.
Thank you to Shelly Rae Fields for the pictures from the match and clinic below..

Tom Lams Seminars
Jan. 27-28, 2007
"Sensitivity to Balance"

We were so pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor a Tom Lams seminar in Phoenix. The seminars were held at the La Quinta Inn, a wonderful venue for this event. Thank you to clubmembers Dick and Peggy Preston for their hard work and dedication to bringing this great seminar to Phoenix. Participants and Observers alike felt like they learned so much.

July Club Meeting
Our July 29th meeting was well attended. The club members enjoyed a wonderful presentation on Canine Structure and Cavalier Breed Type. Especially enjoyable was a slide show from the Judges Breed Seminar. A summary of the National Shows was appreciated by all and reinforced all of the participants' desires to attend next year's National Shows. As always we enjoyed the opportunity to meet our prospective members and socialize with our cavalier friends.
Cavalier Photo Day!
On April 29th we all enjoyed a great social event! Our members (and many prospective members and friends) enjoyed a day at Agua Linda Park in Scottsdale with our pets. We were honored to have our own fellow club member, Shelly Rae Fields, of Field of Dreams Pet Photography take awesome pictures of our cavaliers. Thank you Shelly for the great service and fundraiser event for our club!
 March 18th Club Meeting
AKC SANCTIONED "B" Match February 2006
We enjoyed an obedience presentation as part of our general meeting on March 18th. The event was held at Paradise Valley Park A BBQ-beef lunch was provided and enjoyed by all in spite of the colder, windy weather. Many members and prospective members were in attendance. (Any cavalier can participate in obedience competition, even if they have been spayed or neutered). Even if you don't plan on competing in obedience you may be interested in obedience training -- an obedient dog is always more welcome with friends & family! It is always a thrill to meet each of you and your beloved cavaliers! A Club meeting was held immediately following the obedience presentation.
Conformation Handling Classes
Some of our club members and friends have been enjoying participating in ALL CAVALIER handling classes. These classes began on March 18 and continued for 6 weeks. You can look forward to seeing these members in the ring showing their dogs! Our thanks and appreciation goes out to Ken Smith for teaching us (and our dogs) better handling skills. If you are interested in receiving information about upcoming handling classes by Ken Smith, please email Ken at KenNan@Az2You.com.

On Sunday, February 26th, 2006 we held our first Cavalier Club AKC SANCTIONED "B" Match in the state at Paradise Valley Park. It was a great success! We had great attendance and we especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet several prospective members! Thank you to the Match Committee for putting on such a great event.
